Travel Noshing

Traveling can be stressful. Traveling across the country with a baby, 2 older parents, and a husband is proving to be incredibly stressful. There are many things that will be out of my control. Whether our flight is on time, the weather, traffic getting to the airport, and the speed at which dinner has passed through my tiny humans body. Outside of what I cannot control, there are some things that I can do beforehand that can drastically affect myself and those I am traveling with. Packing snacks for travel can go one of two ways. I could easily stop at the store and pick up chips and granola bars and call it a day. Or I can be more intentional about what I pack, as to assure that those consuming it will feel their best. Case and point. Typical snacks are loaded with sodium and hidden sugars. For this particular trip, I made individual "trail mixes" for each adult. My recipe: raw cashews, walnuts, and cocoa dusted almonds.  It was a perfect balance of crunchy and sweet. And guess what… it didn’t cost me $5 per serving. Planning ahead can save money and also ensure that my family won’t have a blood sugar drop at 10K feet.

Another pro tip: bring an empty water bottle through security and fill up once you're through.  Hydration is very important when traveling.
